About offset
Wheel offset (also called inset) is the amount that the wheel mounting surface is offset inboard or outboard from the center of the wheel, and has a large effect on how well the wheel fits on your car.
The offset means:
• Offset is a number that indicates how far and in which direction the wheel mounting surface is offset from the centerline of the wheel.
Offset type:
1. Positive offset (+) :
• This indicates that the mounting surface is offset inward from the center of the wheel.
• The higher the number, the closer the wheel is to the inside of the car and the closer the tire is to the inside of the body.
• For example, a +35mm offset means that the mounting surface is 35mm inward from the center of the wheel.
2. Zero offset (0) :
• The mounting surface is aligned with the center line of the wheel.
• A zero offset wheel is balanced relative to the centerline.
3. Negative offset (-) :
• This indicates that the mounting surface is offset outward from the center of the wheel.
• The smaller the number, the further out the wheel will be on the car and the closer the tire will be to the fender.
• For example, a -10mm offset means that the mounting surface extends 10mm outward from the center of the wheel.
The offset impacts:
•Positive offset (+) is used to move the wheel closer to the inside of the car to avoid interference with the suspension, brakes, etc. It can also affect the stability of the car.
Negative offset (-) spreads the wheels outward, making the tires wider and giving the car a sporty look. However, be careful as the tires will be more likely to interfere with the fenders.
summary:
• Offset is the amount that the wheel mounting surface is offset inward (positive) or outward (negative) from the center of the wheel.
• Positive offset (+) : The mounting surface moves inward.
• Zero offset (0) : The mounting surface is centered.
• Negative offset (-) : The mounting surface expands outward.
Choosing the correct offset is very important to ensure that the tires do not interfere with the vehicle body and maintain stable driving.
